About

Hello, and welcome to Aspie Zone. My name is Melissa and I’m a 29-year-old aspie. Having been undiagnosed until the age of 24, I spent many years wondering why I felt so different and disconnected from other people. But once I was diagnosed, everything finally made sense. I understand my strengths and challenges better than I ever have before, which has given me the tools I need to improve myself and my life.

Why did I create this blog? There are multiple reasons. The first is that I want people to know that they’re not alone in their struggles. I think that many aspies feel misunderstood as a result of living in a neurotypical world. Since neurotypicals don’t know what it’s like to have autism, they may dismiss the struggles we have, thinking that we’re “overreacting” or “not trying hard enough.” I want autistics to know that there are others who understand exactly what they’re going through.

Another reason I created this blog is to share my experiences in the hope that they can help other aspies. Below are some of the topics I would like to discuss:

  • Diagnosis: How to go about getting one, and the pros and cons of this process
  • Post-diagnosis: How to find and use available resources
  • College/work: How to successfully navigate these areas of your life
  • Executive functioning skills: How to work around executive functioning difficulties
  • Social skills: How to overcome social/communication skills difficulties
  • Comorbids: How to manage depression, anxiety, and other autism comorbids

When discussing these topics, I will share what has helped me in my life, while also welcoming feedback on what has helped readers. I understand that what has worked me for me won’t necessarily work for someone else. That’s why it’s important to open up discussion on these topics.

I hope you will enjoy my site. Let me know if you have anything you would like me to cover on this blog. And if you find my posts helpful, don’t forget to subscribe!
